3 Quick Tips for Visiting Pearl Harbor

Visiting Honolulu for your vacation? Pearl Harbor is definitely one of the places you must visit. Being that it is a very popular tourist spot, there are some things you can do to make your visit a little more pleasant. So load up your car or minivan rental and use these three tips from the team at Lucky Owl Car Rental.

3 Quick Tips for Visiting Pearl Harbor

1. Arrive Early

Pearl Harbor often has crowds, particularly on weekends and nice weather days. Try to arrive as early as you can if you intend to see the USS Arizona Memorial, which you certainly should. You can start purchasing tickets as early as 7 a.m., and tours out to the USS Arizona start at 8 a.m. and run every 15 minutes until 3 p.m. The USS Arizona offers 1,300 free walk-in tickets each day, but they are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. By mid-morning, many of the walk-in tickets that are available each day will have likely been claimed.

2. Bring Essentials Only

You must pass through security in order to visit the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. Any kind of bag is not permitted to pass. A wallet, camera, and water bottle are authorized, but you must carry them all. If you do bring a bag, you’ll need to pay a per-bag fee to store it in a locker. Our recommendation is to wear a lot of pockets. Another trick is to make a purchase from the gift shop and use the bag your receive to more easily carry your belongings.

3. Apply Sunscreen

This advice is useful for all activities in Hawaii. When we say the sun shines here, we mean it. Make sure you’re ready because many of the sights in Pearl Harbor will require you to spend at least some of your time outside. Even if it’s a cloudy morning, it’s best to apply sunscreen before you arrive. A dreary morning might easily turn into a gorgeously sunny afternoon in Hawaii because of the island’s swift weather changes.
